Tri-Sport Taupō offers triathlon, duathlon and aquathlon events for all ages and abilities. From junior development to lifelong participation, there's something for everyone.

In 2005 the Taupō Association of Registered Triathletes changed it name to:

Tri-Sport Taupō

The Tri-Sport Taupō club holds a variety of duathlons, triathlons and aquathlons throughout the summer, catering for all age groups and capabilities. The club has a Junior Development Squad for young athletes hoping to progress in the sport of triathlons, as well as more senior members enjoying the fitness and friendship of triathlon participation.

The club has a number of members who have excelled in the international arena of triathlons and duathlons. Such members include: Arna Taylor – 2000 Womens World Triathlon Champion and Runner Up 2001, Mike Candy – Canadian Duathlon Age Group Champion 2001, Brian Rhodes – Winner of the 2001 Malaysian Ironman, Shanelle Barrett who not only excelled as a competitor but now officiated at the international level, Bevan Docherty, 2004 World Champion, Silver Medal 2004 Olympics, bronze in 2008,  and Fiona Docherty, World Junior Champion. Continuing today Kyle Smith, Nicole van der Kaay and Ivan Abele are representing New Zealand at the Elite level and many members are competing in their age group at World Championships in triathlon, duathlon, aquathon and para-tri.
The club also cherishes its ‘have a go’ and ‘first time triathlon’ members. It is wonderful to see the pleasure on the face of those completing their first event.

A number of our dedicated members have gone on to complete half and full Ironman events both in Taupō, Kona and other events around the world.

Our weekly Monday night events start in November. Included in the season are short and long distance duathlons, triathlons and aquathlons held at various locations around town including Aratiatia, Motorsport Park, Acacia Bay, Craters of the Moon and Wharewaka Point and our iconic Erin Baker Triathlon, a standard distance triathlon, is held annually at Kinloch in early February in conjunction with the Tri NZ Aquathlon National Championships

Tribe Membership

Triathlon New Zealand TRIBE (the sports governing body) membership is compulsory to ALL club members.

Triathlon NZ  membership fees are $25 per adult (over 23 years old), $15 for those aged between 16 to 23 years, $10 for Under 16 years and $10 for a social member (non-competing, or racing locally only). (Plus any processing fees)

There are many reasons why it’s important to be affiliated with the National governing body including, but not limited to: insurance, high performance, youth development, event endorsement and voting rights. In particular, all of our events this year, including the Kinloch Triathlon Festival, are required to be Tri NZ endorsed event. As such, any competitors who do not belong to a Triathlon Club will need to pay a one day race license for any Tri-Sport Taupō, Tri NZ sanctioned event.
